Cake Decorating Class – 3 Important Considerations

Article by Gen Wright

Having trouble with cake decorating? Expert knowledge is what you really need. In this article, we show you how to choose the right cake deco lesson.

Budget: First, think about how much you can afford to pay for the lessons. How much budget do you have? The lower the budget, the lesser the options.

Time: daily time table like? Can you attend full time lessons, or will part time work better for you? Does your current schedule allow you to take time off for lessons? Planning early will make all the difference as to whether you can finish the lessons successfully.

Quality of content: The higher classes are certainly more costly. But quality tends to be better – i.e. better organized, more comprehensive, better tools provided, etc.

After some consideration, you are in a better position to choose the most appropriate cake deco class.

You can choose from 2 different groups – physical lessons (where you attend lessons in person) and the online version (where you learn in front of a desktop).

Good cake deco lessons conducted in a classroom environment can cost hundreds of dollars. Fondant related lessons will generally cost you more. If you have the time (and the budget), attending lessons in person can be fun since lessons are usually conducted in a group. You get hands on experience and you get to meet new people as well.

But what if you can’t attend lessons physically due to time or money constrains? In times like this, online instruction may be your only alternative.

Web based lessons tend to be a lot more affordable. We are talking about shaving hundreds of dollars of the course fees. You may very well end up saving hundreds of dollars just by signing up for online lessons.

You also enjoy the benefit of learning from the comfort of your own home.

Some people are just naturally shy in a group. So it’s good to have web lessons because you may then learn on your own.

Many people opt for Wilton cake deco lessons when starting out.

Wilton has a good cake decorating course for those who wish to pick up such skills fast. Don’t expect overnight success. You need to have patience to strengthen your own cake deco fundamentals. The Wilton course is well organized, and starting from Course 1 is highly recommended.

The first course is about cake decorating basics. It also touches on some basic decorating, but if you want something more advanced, you have to attend course 2.

From course 2 onwards, it’s all about decorating. You get a lot of hands on practice in course 2. Course 2 may be enough for some but if you feel that you can hone your skills to a higher level, attend the next course.

Finally, course 4 allows you to showcase your skills. You get to work with fondant as well as gum paste. Have fun coming up with a great looking cake!

There was a U.S. blogger named Jennifer Yates who blogged about the terrible efforts from bakers all over the world. She also published a book entitled Cake Wrecks. After Jennifer and her husband John signed for cake decoration lessons, Jennifer got the idea to write the book.

]]>

Her husband John took the decorating classes for cakes in 2007 as a Christmas gift. Both of them do the lessons in early 2008. She was hooked and took the cake decorating class for about four months, until her friend Abby emailed her about the popular Under Neat That text on a cake. The story was about cake wrecks and it hit her which also united her with her new hobby.

After reading that one, she started her first blog Cake Wrecks, which was in May. Jennifer blogged about 50 cake decorating catastrophes a day tackling about the most frequent disasters happening. Misspellings on cake decors happen to be the most common cake disasters of all. Even though Jennifer runs a painting business, still she took efforts of sharing things about a job that once became her passion.

Jennifer also admitted that not all of her posts were worthy but she just wants to emphasize the wonders that are going through a baker’s mind on some of the mistakes that happened when baking a cake. But because Jennifer’s blogs have many followers, Cake Wrecks evolved. It is now available online and bookstores across the UK.

Select The Right Cake Decorating Class for Design Ideas

Article by Gen Wright

Having trouble with cake decorating? Perhaps you need to attend some cake decorating lessons. In this article, we show you how to choose the right cake deco lesson.

Price: The first thing to consider is your budget. How much budget do you have? The lower the budget, the lesser the options.

Amount of time you have on your hands: How flexible is your time? Are you currently working on a full time job and would like to take up cake decorating on a part time basis? Can you fit the lessons into your current time table? Planning early will make all the difference as to whether you can finish the lessons successfully.

Quality of classes: The higher classes are certainly more costly. But the content is better – i.e. better structured, more comprehensive, better tools provided, etc.

Once you are clear about what you want, it’s easier to select the right decorating class.

Generally speaking, you can select from 2 categories – classroom lessons (where you attend lessons in person) and the online lessons (where you learn in front of a computer).

Offline cake decorating courses generally cost several hundred dollars, depending on the level of difficulty. Fondant related lessons will generally cost you more. If you have the time (and the budget), attending lessons in person can be fun since lessons are usually conducted in a group. You get hands on experience and you get to meet new people as well.

At times, you may not be able to attend classroom lessons as you may not have the time or money available. In this case, you have only one alternative – to attend online cake decorating classes.

Internet based lessons tend to be a lot more affordable. You will be saving hundreds of dollars by learning on the Internet. The actual amount of money that you save may be several hundred dollars.

You get to learn cake decorating at your own convenience.

Some people just don’t work well in a group. So having the opportunity to learn from home is a great way to pick up cake decorating without having someone looking over your shoulder.

For physical lessons, Wilton courses are great to start with.

A well known brand is Wilton, and it offers cake decorating courses. It takes time to hone your skills to perfection. Be patient and learn the fundamentals well and you are on your way to becoming a master baker. Starting from the very beginning is highly recommended.

Course 1 deals with the basic of cake decorating. You learn how to bake the cake and prepare for the actual decorating. You also learn a little bit of cake deco.

The actual decorating practices start from course 2 onwards. You get a lot of hands on practice in course 2. Course 2 may be enough for some but if you feel that you can hone your skills to a higher level, attend the next course.

Course 4 allows you to showcase all that you have learned. You get to advance your skills working with fondant and gum paste. Enjoy the challenge!
