Speed Reading Eye: Learn to Have a Speed Reading Eye

Absorb Enormous Amounts Of Information With Ease By Developing A Speed Reading Eye

What is a speed reading eye? By understanding how our eye works, we can begin to understand how we read and also how speed reading can be accomplished.  Contrary to what it may seem like,  a reader’s eye does not move smoothly over printed text.  If this was not the case, you would not be able to see anything.  The reason for this being that the eye can only see clearly, things that are held still.

As you are reading a line of text, your eye is actually constantly moving in a series of quick jumps and still intervals. You probably never noticed this because the jumps are so quick they take almost no time at all. However, each individual fixation can take up to half a second.

So the eye basically takes in small gulps of information at a time. In order to develop a speed reading eye, the goal is to gradually increase these short gulps into larger gulps.
The speed reading eye, concentrates it’s fixation point towards the middle of each line of print.  As the speed reading eye moves towards the next line or sentence it starts a couple words from the edge, rather than starting at the beginning,

]]>

With practice this becomes more comfortable and natural. The brain actually has a good idea of what is going to come next without having to fixate on each individual word.  The speed reading eye only needs to check with peripheral vision to make sure the words were as expected.

A great product that I used to train myself to read in this fashion, can be found at UltimateBrainPower.Net The system is very effective and yet so simple. It only took me only about ten minutes each day to learn. Did you know that we typically lose 95% of the information from books we just read in less than 48 hours? Well with the techniques you will learn here, you will be able to stimulate the other 98% of  the brain power that has never been used before.

Check Out UltimateBrainPower.Net for more information!.

Not only does it dramatically increase the speed of your reading, but you also retain all of that information in your permanent memory. Allowing you to effectively build up a ton of knowledge that will serve you for the rest of your life! Most programs that teach speed reading out there simply show people how to skim through pages quickly, ineffectively absorbing the information read.  Being able to read fast is one thing, but imagine the possibilities after you learn to train your brain to act like a computer and “upload” books into your long term memory!

If you truly want to learn how to speed read the proper way, I highly recommend you check out the website at their website. Once again, the website is called:

Speed Reading Tactics: Does Speed Reading Software Training Work?

Speed reading has become an essential business and academic success tool in the knowledge economy. With the onset of PCs, and the internet, live classes have diminished as a result of “instant access.” One of the seemingly easiest choices someone might take to learn the skills is to buy a software program. But does software training work?

Although I can’t state that I have reviewed all software programs, I have reviewed the most popular ones on the market. The benefit of learning speed reading with software in general, is that the software does allow for interesting eye pattern simulation training. By that I mean, software addresses one of the components of speed reading somewhat well – the mechanics, or getting the eyes to move more efficiently.

When you read, the eyes must first “see” the words. The eyes stop for a very brief moment to “fixate” on the words. Untrained readers see only a single or a few words per fixation. This is inefficient. You can picture this by imagining a photograph taken with a zoom lens focused in. If you zoom out with the lens, you see more of the foreground and background of the picture. Your camera takes in “more.”

Similarly speed reading software trains the eyes to see more for each fixation, or stopping (snapshot) of the eyes. Software can help with this. But it is only one piece of the speed reading puzzle, and some software training programs teach you to expand this visual focal area wider than what the eyes can naturally see during these fixations. This can cause terrible eye muscle strain.

]]>

With software training you can learn to “see” thousands and tens of thousands of words per minute. For that aspect of speed reading training, software can be beneficial as well as harmful. Different software programs teach different approaches to the fixation issue. But what good is it to merely see thousands of words per minute if you don’t understand the material?

Understanding the meaning, or comprehension, is other component of the speed reading puzzle that none of the programs I have seen do not cover, or barely touch. Without addressing the cognitive aspect, or comprehension, the training is ineffective. Both aspects of learning to speed read must be covered.

Another problem I have observed with some of the speed reading software programs is with the technical aspects of what is called “fixations.” In reading a fixation happens when the eyes stop to focus on a word or group of words. Neuro-science theorizes that during the stop phase of the eyes moving over the print, the brain is interpreting the visual data. Inefficient readers tend to only take in one or two words at time. Speed reading software trains the eyes to see more for each fixation. This can be a benefit to the beginning speed reader.

Some speed reading software programs however, tend to focus on developing a more efficient eye fixation pattern using an outmoded tachistoscopic approach leading the reader to stretch the natural visual focal area beyond its natural limitations of about one to three inches in diameter. For example, the software may train to see an entire line or even a paragraph with one fixation. This can be damaging and strenuous to the eye muscles.

To demonstrate this, open a book to a page with lots of text where the width of the print is 5-7 inches. Focus somewhere in the middle of a paragraph. Now, without trying to read or understand the material lock your eyes without focusing on a particular word. Just notice the clear focal area. How much can you see within that area? Use a pencil and draw a boundary around what you can clearly see. If you measure the dimensions, it is probably somewhere between 1-3 inches in diameter. If speed reading software is used, many times this natural focal area is wider and deeper. It is an unnatural strenuous stretching that will cause fatigue.

In conclusion, speed reading software programs may be helpful for increasing speed of the eyes and enlarging the area of fixations, but they may in fact be damaging. Additionally, if the program does not directly train how to get your mind responding (dealing in-depth with comprehension) to these greater inputs of visual data, then the training is useless.

Speed Reading – An Essential Skill?

Posted by Admin On September - 22 - 2011

Speed Reading – An Essential Skill?

Reading is an essential skill that everyone needs to have. Being able to communicate with others is critical to your success in the world. From this line of thought, speed reading was developed. If you can gain so much information reading normally, just think what you could accomplish if you could do it twice as fast. This is the basic concept behind speed reading and it has been learned all over the world.

What exactly does speed reading refer to? In reality, there is no set way to read very quickly. There are a number of different methods that people use including: chunking and subvocalization. Of course every person will naturally read at a different pace but everyone should be able to increase their speed by learning some speed reading techniques. Some speed readers can read up to 2000 words per minute and retain 50% of what they read. This might seem astronomical to those that have never investigated speed reading before, but it is reality to those that know how to do it.

Where exactly did speed reading come from? It originated from a method used by psychologists. They used what is called a tachistoscope to flash images rapidly in front of the subjects. It amazed the psychologists that some of the images were recognizeable even though they were only on the screen for one five-hundredth of a second. It was these results that eventually led to speed reading being developed.

From that point, the United States Air Force used these discoveries for speed reading. They added onto the process of learning until Harvard took it a step further. They created the first film that was designed to teach people how to speed read.

Over the years, many people have used speed reading. One of the most famous speed readers was John F. Kennedy. It was said that his reading speed was amazing and he was a big propenent of the skill. One man named Howard Stephen Berg claims that he is the world’s fastest reader with the ability to read up to 25,000 words in a minute. He demonstrated his ability across the country on different television programs. For example, he once read an 1100 page book and scored a 100% on a memory recall test afterwards. While not everyone will be able to read that fast, it’s generally accepted that you can improve your reading speed.

How does one go about learning how to acquire this skill? Luckily, there are a number of programs that are designed to do just that. There are many programs and courses which encourage the daily use of books. You stick to the exercises and you can double or triple your current reading speed. With advancements in technology, there are now many software programs that can aid you in improving your reading speed.

While there are many different programs out there to help you learn, there are just as many different theories on how to learn. Some methods teach you to view words as whole images instead of sounding them out. Some methods have you stare at the center of the screen while more text becomes visible around it. There are many different theories as to how to learn speed reading. The important thing is that it can be learned. Speed reading is a skill that can be picked up by anyone.

Overall, speed reading is a great tool that can make you more efficient and knowledgable. You will be able to take on board a lot of information at a much quicker rate than usual whilst still effectively managing to retain the information.

Speed Reading Tactics: Speed Reading Is All in Your Mind!

Speed Reading Tactics: Speed Reading Is All in Your Mind!

Is speed reading a myth, or a method? Searching through the web for information on speed reading can lead to mass confusion, especially if you read the majority of posted views on non-commercial sites. The verdict from reviewing these personal experiences can cause an interested learner to have great doubts about the claims we see on the commercial sites. Why is there such great debate?

The reasons why there is great debate about the effectiveness of speed reading training are varied. They include: poorly designed training, misinformation based on outdated techniques that are packaged from public domain sources, lack of knowledge about the nature of reading from sellers who may have succeeded in learning the skills themselves, and a general misunderstanding about comprehension from both the providers of speed reading and the students of speed reading.

Without comprehension, you can not read. You may move your eyes through the material rapidly, but if you don’t understand the material, then it has been a waste of time. That statement is true, unless it is part of a training technique that is part of a larger training process.

Most speed reading programs do not teach the comprehension process effectively. Many do not even address it and the entire program is about moving the eyes faster. These programs leave the learner with the assumption that with enough repetition comprehension will come along on its own. This is false. This creates disgruntled learners.

]]>

There are two components of reading whether you read fast or not. The first component is mechanical. Your eyes are the mechanical aspect of reading. Because of your old habits, if you read less than 600 words per minute (wpm), you are probably doing this inefficiently and you can benefit somewhat from training on this. The second component to reading is comprehension, or the cognitive aspect.

In learning to speed read, developing the cognitive aspect, or comprehension, is the bigger challenge. In fact, it is the reason why disgruntled speed reading trainees have negative views about the skill. If the training did not include an in-depth approach to comprehending then the criticism is well placed.

On the other hand, there is an important side to this debate that does fall on the shoulders of the learner. If comprehension is your mind’s understanding of the text, then you have to learn how to drive your mind faster as you learn to move your eyes faster as well. Retraining your mind is much more difficult than training your eyes.

It doesn’t happen by magic. Thus speed reading is actually all in your mind. Not only do you have to move your eyes faster, but you need to train your mind to think and perceive in faster and new ways.

Learning to perceive in new ways is a tricky path to navigate. The mind wants to resist this because it has been successful in keeping you “safe” as you are now. In other words, we get trapped in our habits. Change represents a threat. The mind protects you from the threat. Resistance is a natural response of the mind.

The key to successfully learning to speed read is not merely moving the eyes through print rapidly. The key to speed reading success is to use your mind in new ways as well. When you succeed at this transition, it is amazing how it affects all other aspects of your thinking and learning. It is not an easy transition, but is well worth the effort.

And now that you have learned perhaps one of the most critical aspects of mastering speed reading, I’d like to invite you to continue your learning with more free insightful tips at http://www.speedreadingtactics.com/speed_reading_newsletter.html.

Speed Reading Techniques

Now, you aren’t required to be an autistic ‘Rainman’ like character for you to apply these speed reading techniques, as anyone can learn to really do it. But right at the end of the day, you must realize that not everyone can seem to read through 3-4 pages per minute. Some people have to learn slower by nature, and this should not discourage them the slightest bit. This is among the best speed reading techniques used by individuals who are known to read very fast. As you read your line, you may notice that you just re-read the same line over and over again. Covering up the brand, after you have read it, prevents this from happening and as well makes you read your line faster and pay more attention the first time that you read the idea. Run the card and also the piece of paper on the next paragraphs at a pace faster than you think you would read, and after a while it will make you read faster. For example, you start reading some sort of line and midway in the line you jump with the end of the 3 rd or 4th line. Then you certainly quickly scan the lines involving in a loop as an alternative to reading the entire line in a very uniform manner. Again, remember that this speed reading tactic cannot work for all kinds of material, and it undoubtedly cannot work for every last person. With time in addition to practice, you will have the capacity to master this trick accordingly, and you will also find other speed reading techniques easy to get.

Using the HopThis technique teaches you to hop on the line using your palms, after every 3-5 words and phrases. The idea is to not read each and every single word, but to gather information on a few set of words occasionally. When you start reading your line, use your fingertips and cause them to ‘hop’ at regular time frames. Depending on the size for the page, you can hop 2-4 times per line. It’s important to remember to never overdo the hopping bit as that may bring about missing out on some important information, but there are confident phrases and words that could be easily skipped. These easy speed reading techniques are designed to enhance the reading speed associated with individual and increase their comprehension for the words they read, when, one feels that these methods are hampering their know-how about the words, then they must not continue using such techniques.

Best Speed Reading Software

Article by Adam Harley

ABSTRACT: Can computers really help people learn how to speed read? Do they accelerate the process, or are they just a burden? This article explores what exactly speed reading software does, and how it tries to help.

Computers are being used in every walk of life. Software programs have been developed for all kinds of problems so the demand of speed reading software is also increased. In this intense world focused on knowledge and technology, there are many people who have to read a huge amount of material. Unsurprisingly, this can be a really challenging job.

The market of speed reading software is filled with different kinds of helpful programs but before you make a purchase decision, it’s important to understand exactly what you’ll be getting… is the Speed Reading Manual a replacement for them all?

Good software is not only useful, but easy to use. Luckily, most speed reading software programs not only increase reading speed but guide the reader how to use the software.

“Vortex Speed Reading” was the first speed reading software ever developed. It used a very wide variety of exercises, that are still in use by software of today. The actual effectiveness of those exercises could be debated.

Most of the speed reading software programs use the same technique as in Vortex Speed Reading software. What you’re likely to find in the average speed reading program is this: some exercises where you follow objects as they move quickly around the screen, some exercises where you read words that flash quickly on the screen, and some exercises that highlight chunks of words as you read through a sample text.

Following objects as they move quickly will help improve (on a small scale) the speed at which your eyes are able to move. Just as with any other motor skill, this just requires practice. But software isn’t really necessary for this… You can practice just as well by darting a pen along a paper and following it instead. Another good exercise is to glance from corner to corner of a page, going top-left, top-right, bottom-left, bottom-right, and back to the top again.

Flashing words is one of the oldest ever exercises in speed reading training. This is one of the original exercises the military used when teaching its fighter pilots to speed read, so that they wouldn’t waste any time reading slowly! Flashing words can help your word recognition speed, but it doesn’t count as speed reading. The activity is useless for actual reading, because words never flash in real life. But this is still good practice for speed reading.

Highlighting big chunks of words is again something that while isn’t really necessary, does help as a training exercise. This can help you get into the habit of reading more than one word at a time.

The best speed reading software provides guidance, interactivity, exercises and passages for practice to the reader. But really, none of these things are necessary for learning how to speed read. When you consider that the average speed reading software costs over 0 dollars, and that the Speed Reading Manual can get you the same effect, it becomes clear that expensive software is not the way to go.

Having Trouble Picking a Speed Reading Program? Find Out What Works and What Doesn’t

Article by Adam Harley

SUMMARY: If you’re going to buy a speed reading product, you had better know what you’re doing.

Speed reading programs can improve both a person’s reading speed and their comprehension. It is not uncommon to double your reading proficiency after doing a couple speed reading exercises.

With the help of some speed reading training, a reader can easily learn how to read and understand huge reading materials quickly and efficiently. Speed reading is especially useful when a person suffers from information overload – a problem very common in today’s world.

But if you’re going to buy a speed reading product, you had better know what you’re doing. There are more scams and exaggerated claims out there than you can count!

There are many speed reading programs are available in the market. A company known as “Vallier” developed the very first speed reading program, known as “Vortex Speed Reading” but it is not available for newer computer operating systems. However, a large number of speed reading programs are available on the internet, most of them using the same techniques and methods as in “Vortex Speed Reading Software”.

One of the more popular programs that you may have heard of is EyeQ, also known as “InfiniteMind”. Or, you might have even heard of The Speed Reading Manual – an alternative to costly software. The Speed Reading Manual details many methods that you can use to teach yourself how to speed read, in an effort to remove the need for expensive software.

One technique speed reading software uses is grouping words together for reading in “blocks” or “bunches”. If you can learn how to read in blocks instead of in a linear way, then you will be a much better reader.

There is another technique in which the software presents a single word at a time to the reader, and slowly increases the speed at which the words are presented, until you are reading faster than you would normally.

Some speed reading programs show objects moving quickly across the screen, that you are to follow with your eyes. This trains your eyes to move quickly while staying focused.

Those are the main ways in which speed reading programs will attempt to teach you how to speed read. They are the most popular methods, and usually work.

When you find a program that looks good, make sure it comes with the exercises listed above, and make sure the program has a 100% money-back guarantee. Most speed reading programs cost from to 0 dollars. If the product is good enough, it should be guaranteed to work. Don’t buy anything that isn’t guaranteed.

If you’re not ready to buy a full-blown speed reading product, try the Speed Reading Manual and see what you think. You can download it here: http://www.speedreadingisreal.com/ You have nothing to lose; get it right now!
