Historically Functional, Fashionable and Fun Zip Bags

Article by Iain

Have you ever wondered how handbags or purses came to be? It is a question not often thought since handbags are just there. When you go for a girlâ??s night out, you choose a handbag that best suits your outfit. For the beach, you choose an island inspired beach bag, sophisticated and sleek purses for cocktails, back packs for mountain hiking, sling bags for school, sports bags for the gym or any other sports, and the list goes on and on and on. Yet, when did handbags first came to use?

The History of Handbags

The earliest recoded history of handbag goes back to the 14th century. It is when Egyptian hieroglyphs show small pouches fastened to a girdle and tied around the waist. Egyptians then perhaps saw the function of a bag and if this is the case, bags were perhaps used even before this ancient civilization. But aside from this, the bagâ??s function is not the only thing that attracts attentionâ??it became a status symbol. Bags are adorned with embroidery and jewels. Its design and decoration became more elaborate once the person using the bag was either rich or holds an important position in the society.

After the turn of the 16th century, there was a change in the materials used for bags. There was a larger recognition on its practicality and the elaborate designs were replaced by everyday materials like leather with a drawstring fastener. However, a century later, The bagâ??s design became more complex. From the simple square or rectangular, bags were seen in irregular shapes and young girls were expected to learn the necessary skills to embroider or make beautiful hand-stitched handbags to show their marriageable characters.

18th century on the other hand saw another evolution in the designs of handbags. The fashion style, called neo-classical, pushed women to wear less amount of underclothing and wearing a purse is by no means unfashionable. It could and would ruin the look of her clothing, so the use of a bag was changed to a reticule which is a small woman’s drawstring handbag usually made of net or beading or brocade.

During the 1900â??s, bags were first called handbags referring to hand-held luggage bags. Handbags are usually carried by men and from then on, it triggered an inspiration for the handbags for women. It became so popular that the once fully embroidered or jeweled bags or reticules saw more functional designs with locks, internal compartments, and complicated fasteners.

The 1920′s however, saw a more liberal fashion since bags were not required to match the outfit perfectly. Two decades later, the severity of war made the evolvement of the handbagâ??s designs came to a halt. Yet, it was during the 50′s when some of the fashion giants started while a more youthful culture came to rise in the 60â??s. Now, as fashion continuous to evolve, handbags are becoming more individualized, interesting and fun. It will use more varying materials, interesting textures and designs just like the Zip It purses collection.

The Zipper and Zip It Bags

Just like other bags before, functionality and style comprise the Zip It bags and purses. Yet, what is more interesting is the material used for the Zip It bags. Zip It was called a Zip It on the first place simply because it uses a material called fastener with two facing-rows of teeth pulled into a single piece by the slider. This fastener, also called a zipper got its name from the â??zipâ?? sound it produces when opened or closed.

Since the discovery of zipper in 1851 (it was then called the Automatic, Continuous Clothing Closure), zipper companies like YKK founded byYoshida Kogyo Kabushililaisha in 1934 is now is made up of 80 companies at 206 facilities in 52 countries. Three years later, zipper heats up when French fashion designers raved over zippers in men’s trousers during the “Battle of the Fly” in 1937 while a couple of years more, the zipper evolved when it could open on both ends.

Zipper was used in continuous innovation and great ideas. Like in 2003, Ishai Halmut, a student at the Israeli Collage of Design came up of the zipper bags. By 2009, another innovative idea came to being when Zip It zipper bags and Raro Connection teamed up with Amazon and gave you the official Zip-It online store.

Now, zipper is everywhere. It was not only used in clothing like jackets and pants, shoes or leather goods and bags. But what is more fun is to have a bag made from zipper. It is equally stylish and colorful and more importantly, Zip It zipper bags have many compartments that bring surprises and fun.

It is a modern and fashionable way to enjoy your bag. More than this, it is an embodiment of human creativity. Zip It bags could define your fashion and for some it became their passion.
